To get to Murfreesboro take I-24 East out of Nashville toward Chattanooga. Exit Hwy. 96 East is the first of two exits that will take you to Murfreesboro.

Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village - A living history museum of early Southern life includes a log house, blacksmith shop, general store, gristmill, one room school house, church, and museum. Call 615-893-6565.

Children's Discovery House -Hands on activities in arts and sciences for children ages 2-12. Exhibits include flight simulator, live animals, creek walk, shadows and more. Call 615-8980-2300.

Oakland's Historic House Museum - An Antebellum plantation house built in four phases from about 1815 to 1860. Restored to the early 1860's with original and period furnishings. Site of Nathan Bedford Forrest's raid on Murfreesboro in July 1862 and the visit of Jefferson Davis in December 1862. You'll find it at: 900 N. Stones River National Battlefield - National Park Service area commemorating the Civil War Battle of Stones River. More than 83,000 soldiers fought in this Federal offensive to trisect the Confederacy. With 23,000 casualties, it was one of the bloodiest battles fought west of the Appalachians. The battle set the stage for the Union advance to Chattanooga. The 440 acres include a National Cemetery, remnants of the fort, and the oldest intact Civil War monument.
